Can you tell if someone is a emotionally mature person? Despite associating maturity with old age, there is also emotional maturity to consider as well. We don't need to look old and have a big beard to be emotionally mature or wise.  Some people can be well into their adult life and yet they lacking maturity than some of their younger counterparts.

So how can you tell if someone is emotionally mature and wise?


1.  Their Choices Are Based On Their Character

Does your emotions get the best of you and forced you to make poor decisions? Those who are emotionally mature based most of their decisions on their character as opposed to their feelings. They take time to assess and evaluate the situation. They have a set of values they live by, and within these values that take the lead rather than succumbing to negative emotions. Their character always ends up controlling their emotions. They simply need to remember who they are and what they stand for to supress any biased feelings that can contribute to poor decision-making.

 

2. Being Patient

Patience is a virtue that a wise person always possesses . If you're a person mature you realize that big goals often takes a good amount of time and effort to achieve. Those who are mature will work hard to get what they want and also understand that they can't get it done at the drop of a hat. Achieving their goals often takes time and patience. Nothing is impossible if you put your mind into it. Mature individuals are aware that everyone else has their own troubles and conflicts to deal with as well. This allows to be understanding and patient with others.

 

3. They Keep Their Promises And Commitments 

A promise is a promise and wise individuals always keep the promises they've make. They never stopped on fulfilling those promises even if the motivations we're no longer present. They don't let that stop them and keep on pushing through against any feelings of frustration or boredom, because they know that others are counting on them. Gratification comes later in fulfilling those commitments, but its well worth it for them. 

 

4. They Listen More And Talk Less

People appreciates those who listens actively in a conversation. Mature people engage back and respond with thoughtful ideas that adds value to the topic. They don't just focus on what their reply will be and when they'll get a chance to share it, Instead they take into account the other individual's opinion and use it to give a thoughtful response. This leads into a more interesting discussions that brings clarity into each other's opinions. They are also aware that there's a lot to learn from other people. Listening to what they have to say, gives mature people a greater opportunity to learn from them, determine their point of view and then give a meaningful response.  

 

5. They Are Down To Earth And Don't Seek Attention.

Mature people are humble and doesn't crave recognition from others. They realized that they don't have all the knowledge in the world and can learn more from other people as well. They don't put themselves above others because of their achievement, instead they treat everyone as their equal. A mature person can still be confident and proud of their accomplishments, but they don't need praise from others to feel good about themselves. Staying down to earth and sharing their knowledge unto others is enough for them.. 


6. They Are Open-Minded

Being open-minded is a sign of maturity. Mature people are respectful of contrasting opinions and shouldn't be a judge of others. The realized that that individual has different circumstances and different struggles to go through. These different experiences lead them to their own views.They are also aware that there's a lot that we don't know in life, so it's best to keep an open mind because as wise as a person may be, they don't have all the answers.

 

7. They Have Self Awareness And Accountability

Self- awareness is an important key in emotional maturity. A wise person knows that they need to step back from any heated situation and keep their emotions in check. They know that every action has its corresponding consequences. They don't just think about the repercussions of the actions for themselves, but for others too. Their words and decisions can lead down into many different paths. Being aware of this prevents them from making bad decisions. However, if make a bad decision, they have enough self-awareness and humility to admit that they are wrong. They hold themselves accountable, adjust their own behavior, and take responsibility for their actions.  


Being emotionally mature and wide doesn't develop overnight, It takes time with experiences that we accrue over time. Just be patient and any mistakes that we make, we must owned it and turned it into valuable lessons that can make us a better human being.
